Literacy Gold and Accelerated Reader at Benton House School

At our school, we are committed to ensuring every child becomes a confident, fluent reader, and we use a combination of Literacy Gold and Accelerated Reader to support this journey.

Literacy Gold is an evidence‑based online intervention designed for pupils, going beyond phonics to strengthen the underlying skills needed for reading success. Its structured programmes improve phonological awareness, eye control, fluency, comprehension and spelling. Children work through personalised activities that replicate the impact of specialist teaching, helping us target and support readers who need an additional boost.

Alongside this, we use Accelerated Reader, a widely respected programme that nurtures independent reading by matching children to books within their personalised reading range, allowing them to read at their own pace and take short quizzes to check understanding. This monitoring system helps teachers track progress in real time and encourages regular reading practice, which research shows leads to the greatest gains in comprehension and reading age. Together, these two tools enable us to provide a rich, responsive reading curriculum that supports every learner to thrive.
