Home News & Events Practical maths at Benton House School
At Benton House School we use practical resources in maths because children understand ideas best when they can see, touch, and explore them for themselves. Equipment such as counters, cubes, measuring tools and real-life objects helps pupils connect abstract numbers to concrete experiences, turning calculations into meaningful actions. Practical activities encourage curiosity, discussion and problem-solving, allowing every child to build confidence at their own pace. By linking mathematics to everyday situations, we help learners develop secure foundations and the independence to apply their skills beyond the classroom.
