6th March 2026

World Book Day: The Great Benton Bear Book

For World Book Day, pupils across the school took part in an exciting whole‑school event: “The Great Benton Bear Book Mystery.” This themed day was designed to promote a love of reading through author exploration, problem‑solving activities, and increased pupil engagement.

The day began with a presentation introducing the mystery: Benton Bear had mysteriously disappeared, and the children were tasked with working together to uncover clues that would lead to his discovery. The first clue was shared with pupils either in their classrooms before they began their investigations.

Each class represented a different children’s author, transforming their learning environment to reflect the themes and stories of their chosen writer. Every classroom had one hidden or staged clue linked to the mystery and book‑themed activities tailored to the class’s chosen author.

Teachers created a rich variety of sensory, creative, and movement‑based activities inspired by well‑known authors including:

  • Wand and potion making inspired by Harry Potter
  • Whizz Pop juice and marvellous mixtures, drawing on the imaginative world of Roald Dahl
  • Survival challenges linked to The Hunger Games
  • A ‘Where’s Wally?’ hunt in the Forest School area

Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the sense of adventure and collaboration, while deepening their connection to books and storytelling and furthering their understanding of authors increasing visibility across the school. The mystery encouraged curiosity, teamwork, and a joyful celebration of reading capturing the true spirit of World Book Day!
